Diemicke Again Not Enough as Women's Soccer Falls to King's in Double OT

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Another strong performance from junior Dolores Diemicke (North Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) and the Manhattanville College defense was not enough as the Valiant women's soccer team fell in double overtime to King's (Pa.) by a 1-0 score in MAC Freedom play on Saturday night at McCarthy Stadium.

The Lady Monarchs finally broke through four minutes into the second overtime when freshman Mariana Mercado found senior Ivy Nulton on the right wing and Nulton beat the junior keeper on a shot to lower left corner to give King's (5-5, 1-1 MAC Freedom) the overtime victory over Manhattanville (4-7, 0-2 MAC Freedom).

Diemicke was up the task through the first 100-plus minutes, making three saves in the first half and five more in the second stanza to send the match into extra time. Alexandra Garrett had a great chance to win the game for King's in the 88th minute, but Diemicke stoned her in a one-on-one situation to keep the match tied.

The junior kept the match scoreless again in the first overtime, leaving her feet to deny Allison Andrew in the 99th minute. However, she was unable to stop another one-on-one chance in the final seconds of the 104th minute, when Nulton found the net from 12 yards out to give King's the double-overtime victory.

The Valiants will continue MAC Freedom play and look for their first conference win of the year on Tuesday as Manhattanville will welcome DeSales University to GoValiants.com Field at 4 p.m.
