MADISON, N.J. – The Manhattanville College women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at the 2015 Middle Atlantic Crossover Tournament on Saturday, falling to MAC Commonwealth foes Alvernia University by a 3-1 score and Widener University by a 3-0 verdict.
Sophomore
Kerry Mackey (Smithtown, N.Y./Christ the King) was the Valiants' top hitter on the afternoon, combining for 26 kills on 56 attacks for a solid .393 hitting percentage, in addition to seven blocks at the net. Sophomore
Asia Reid (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Nellie A. Thornton High School) also added 16 kills on team-best .414 hitting, while junior
Alissa Primavera (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) chipped in 15 kills.
Junior
Megan Quinabo (Pearl City, Hawaii/Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama) also led the Valiants with 45 assists and added 21 digs on the afternoon, while freshman
Christina Nardi (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) dug out a team-best 31 balls in the seven sets.
The Valiants hung tough with Alvernia in the first match of the day, but the Crusaders pulled away in the final two sets to take a 3-1 (27-25, 15-25, 25-15, 25-18) victory over Manhattanville.
Mackey led Manhattanville with 11 kills on 30 attempts, followed by Reid with nine kills. Primavera and sophomore
Meagan Dattoma (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) added six kills apiece for the Valiants, while Quinabo had a double-double (34 assists, 12 digs) and Nardi recorded a season-high 20 digs as well.
Alvernia was paced by Laura Wachowicz and Emily Smith with 14 kills apiece, with Smith also adding 13 digs for a double-double of her own. Abby O'Donnell recorded 24 assists for the Crusaders as well in the win.
Manhattanville hit well in the second match of the day, but the team was unable to overcome an even hotter Widener squad in the Pride's 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 29-27) win.
Mackey was on fire offensively for the Valiants against Widener, putting down a match-high 15 kills without an error on 26 attempts for a .577 hitting percentage. Primavera put down nine kills and Reid added seven, while freshman
Laura LiVolsi (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) chipped in six kills of her own. Freshman
Andrea Baez-Berrios (Caguas, Puerto Rico/Cupeyville School) also recorded a season-high 12 assists to lead the Valiants.
Nicole Dorman registered 14 kills and Kierston Forney added 11 to pace the Pride, while Sabrina Barbieri posted a match-high 30 assists and Lauren Elliott led all players with 16 digs.
Manhattanville (10-6) will face arguably its toughest test of the season on Tuesday, as the Valiants host current AVCA #10 Eastern University in a MAC Freedom matchup at Kennedy Gymnasium beginning at 7 p.m.
