OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – Four Valiants reached double figures as the Manhattanville College women's basketball team defeated Old Westbury 71-52 Monday evening in a non-conference matchup.
Seniors
Ashley Raaf (Rockaway Beach, N.Y./Christ The King),
Ashley Franklin (New Haven, Conn./Hill Regional Career) and
Bri Pabon (Newington, Conn./Newington), along with freshman
Kayleah McGuire (Somers, N.Y./Somers) all reached double figures for the Valiants (4-1 overall) as they used a balanced attack to take down the Panthers (2-2 overall).
After battling the Panthers during the first quarter, Manhattanville outscored the Panthers 23-14 in the second, using a seven-point run late in the period to extend their lead to 10 points heading into halftime.
The Valiants continued their solid play in the second half, forcing Old Westbury to shoot just 22 percent from the field for the half.  Despite the poor shooting performance, the Panthers continued to hang in the game, cutting the deficit to nine points with 6:43 to play.  The Valiants continued to use their balance attack to take down the Panthers however, as they used a 12-point run over the next five minutes which featured baskets from five different players to put the game out of reach.
Franklin had another solid performance for the Valiants, hauling in 14 rebounds to go along with her game-high 13 points to record her first double-double of the season.  Pabon and Raaf also helped to lead the Manhattanville attack, combining for 24 points and 10 assists on the night.
The Valiants return to the court Wednesday, as they take on DeSales University in their first MAC Freedom matchup of the season.  Tip-off for that matchup is slated for 6:00 P.M.
