WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Valiants allowed just three shots on goal against King's College (Pa.), but were unable to find the back of the net in a 2-0 loss to the Monarchs in the MAC Freedom semifinals.
The Monarchs (16-3-1 overall) jumped out to an early lead in the 4th minute of action, when Daniel Hernandez fired a shot inside the right post to give King's a 1-0 advantage.
King's controlled the tempo early on, putting together sold offensive attacks but the Valiant defense stood up to the challenge, allowing just the one shot on goal for the half. Manhattanville (9-6-4 overall) took some time to settle in offensively, but were able to string together solid attacks of their own late in the half.
The Monarchs took the 1-0 advantage into the halftime break. In the second half the Valiant defense again limited the King's attack, allowing just two shot on goal, but again the Monarchs took full advantage. In the 54th minute, Brian Fenster made a nice cutback move to find space, and beat goalkeeper
Willie Silber (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) on the near post to extend the lead to two.
The Valiants once again were able to apply pressure on the offensive end in the second half, but were unable to come away with a goal. Manhattanville had three free kicks within striking distance, but were turned away by the Monarch defense. Senior
Steve Singson (Deer Park, N.Y./St. Anthony's) had Manhattanville's best look at goal on a free kick from 24 yards out, but his shot was knocked out of play by King's goalkeeper Owen Geedey.
Manhattanville will have to wait until Monday to determine the fate of their season. The Valiants are searching for a bid into the ECAC Championships, with participating teams being selected during Monday's selection show. If chosen, Manhattanville would open up play on November 11, with the site and opponent to be determined.
