DANBURY, Conn. – The season is not yet over for the Manhattanville College women's volleyball team, as the Valiants have earned the third seed in this week's ECAC Division III Metro/Upstate Volleyball Championship, the conference office announced late Monday night.
Manhattanville will host the first round of the championship on Wednesday, November 11, when the Valiants welcome sixth-seeded College of New Rochelle to Kennedy Gymnasium beginning at 7 p.m.
For Manhattanville, this is the program's first appearance in the ECAC Tournament and first postseason appearance of any type since making the championship game of the Skyline Conference Tournament in 2001.
The Valiants enter the postseason with a 17-9 record following a sixth-place finish in the MAC Freedom regular-season standings. Junior Alissa Primavera (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) leads the team with 243 kills, while sophomore Kerry Mackey (Smithtown, N.Y./Christ the King) had put down 236 kills and currently ranks 22nd in Division III with her conference-best .369 hitting percentage.
New Rochelle finished its regular season with a 19-12 record (13-11 vs. NCAA teams) and captured a third straight Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship this year. The Blue Angels are led by sophomore Fabiola Padilla Rios, who has 306 kills, and Co-HVIAC Player of the Year Melanie Ann Lopez Soto, who ranks top-five in Division III with 90 service aces in 97 sets.
