Valiants Drop Season Opener against Vassar

POUGHKEESPIE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville men's lacrosse team dropped their first game of the season on Wednesday, falling to the Brewers of Vassar College by a final score of 18-2. Scoring the goals for Manhattanville were senior Jack Polack and junior Connor Normandin (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell).

It was a tough start to the season for a Manhattanville squad looking to regain its footing in the Freedom Conference after the last few years. This is the fourth consecutive defeat at the hands of the Brewers, whom the Valiants haven't beaten since the 2010 season.

The Brewers offense was powered by its captains, senior Sean Brazier led the way with four goals and junior Noah parson recorded three of his own.  Goalkeepers Ben Lehr and Erik Mikilenich combined for 10 saves on 12 shots while Manhattanville keepers George Madan (Tuckahoe, N.Y./Eastchester) and Zach Hoffman (Loudonville, N.Y./LaSalle Institute) recorded a combined 10 saves on 28 shots.

Pending the weather conditions, the Valiants will either resume action on Saturday against UMass Boston or next Wednesday against Mount Saint Vincent. Both games are scheduled to take place at GoValiants.com Field.
