DOYLESTOWN, Pa.- Senior
Alyson Caiazzo (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Saviour) registered 15 points to go with 15 rebounds on Wednesday night, but the Manhattanville women's basketball team was unable to defeat Delaware Valley in Freedom Conference play, falling by a final score of 75-53.
By tallying 15 rebounds tonight for Manhattanville (10-10, 1-8 Freedom), Caiazzo becomes the first player in team and Middle Atlantic Conference history to grab 300 rebounds in three consecutive seasons. Freshman
Samantha Milazzo (Bellmore, N.Y./John F Kennedy) added a spark off the bench, contributing 12 points in 24 minutes of duty, going 4-of-7 from the floor. Delaware Valley (10-10, 5-4 Freedom) had three different players finish in double-figures, including a game-high 18 points from Eireann Anastasi.
The Aggies jumped out early on the Valiants, taking a 14-4 lead after the first seven minutes of play. Brenna Coll and Brittany Wood each finished with 15 points and both got started quickly in the contest, combining for 10 of the first 14 points. With the quick start to the first half from the Aggies, Manhattanville was never able to close in on any deficit or grab a lead.
Delaware Valley finished shooting a stifling 48.2 percent (27-56) from the floor, utilizing good looks at the basket to take advantage of the Valiants. Manhattanville struggled offensively, shooting 33.9 percent (20-59) overall, including a 29.6 percent (8-27) mark in the first half. After one half of play, the Aggies extended their lead to 16 points, 38-22.
Manhattanville looked to close in on the Aggies in the second half, but the stellar play from Anastasi, Coll and Wood proved to be too much. Delaware Valley led by as many as 18 points with 18:03 left until the Valiants could cut their deficit down to nine at the 11:18 mark. The nine-point deficit was the closest Manhattanville could come to the Aggies, as Delaware Valley utilized an 11-0 run to take a 62-42 lead with 6:50 left to play. The Valiants could not answer the 20-point lead of the Aggies, falling by a final score of 75-53.
