MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.- The Manhattanville baseball team split a double header with Grove City on Monday afternoon, beating the Wolverines in game one 8-6 while dropping the second game by a final score of 4-3.

Manhattanville (2-2) tallied four home runs on Monday against Grove City (1-3), including three in the first game. Senior
Bobby Guerra (Bronx, N.Y./Arlington), Junior
Jordanis Nunez (Bronx, N.Y./St. Raymond), and Sophomores
Joe Anselmi (North Rockland, N.Y./North Rockland) and
Robbie Lynch (Bronx, N.Y./Fordham Prep) all homered, combining for eight RBI for the Valiants.

Senior
Joe Palmeri (Mastic, N.Y./Eastport/South Manor) started game one for the Valiants, pitching all seven innings, allowing five earned runs, striking out five batters before picking up the win. The Valiants trailed 6-0 after four innings before mounting an impressive comeback. Manhattanville was able to chip away in the fourth inning, scoring two runs before Nunez stepped up in the fifth, belting a three-run home run to pull the Valiants within one. One batter later, Lynch stepped up, tying the game up at six with a solo home run of his own. In the same inning, Guerra stepped up with a runner on to also go yard, giving Manhattanville an 8-6 lead. The eight unanswered runs would eventually hold up as Palmeri was able to close out the Wolverines, winning game one for the Valiants by a final score of 8-6.

Freshman
Pat Badia (Somers, N.Y./Somers) took the mound for Manhattanville in game two, pitching four innings, allowing one earned run on six total hits before being replaced by classmate
Dennis Berardi (Brewster, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic).

Manhattanville picked up where it left off in the second game as Anselmi belted a two-run home run in the second inning. The Wolverines eventually scored one run in each of the next three innings, taking a 3-2 lead into the sixth. The Valiants would tie the game up in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly from senior
Nick Euvino (Bronx, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac), making it 3-3. Despite tying the game up, the Valiants were unable to produce anymore runs as an RBI single from the Wolverines in the sixth inning was good enough to give them their first win of the season, beating Manhattanville by a final score of 4-3 in game two.
