Valiants Fall to Clark Cougars, 19-9

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Manhattanville men's lacrosse team dropped to 2-3 on the season following Saturday's 19-9 loss to the Cougars of Clark University. Sophomore Andrew Murray (Yonkers, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) scored his third hat trick in the last four games and sophomores Colin Morrissey (Shelton, Conn./St. Joseph) and Ed Motherway (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) added two goals apiece for the Valiants.

In a fast-paced the game, the Cougars got on the board first when Andrew Myrhe struck at just 1:20 into play. Murray answered back for the Valiants, tying the game at one at the 12:15 mark of the first. Morrissey scored his first of the game just over one minute later, giving the Valiants a 2-1 lead, and their only lead of the afternoon.

The Cougars would score three straight goals before Morrissey added his second of the game with just 2:44 remaining in the first quarter.  With Manhattanville trailing 4-3, Myrhe scored his second goal with 1:41 left in the quarter, pushing the lead to 5-3.

After Nick Johnson scored back-to-back tallies for the Cougars, freshman Christian Flores (Avon, Conn./Avon) buried a pass from junior Connor Norman, cutting the Valiants deficit to three.  The Cougars added one more goal, and Motherway scored with just four seconds remaining sending the Valiants into halftime trailing 8-5.

The Cougars would scored the only three goals of the third quarter and added one more in the fourth before Motherway picked up his second goal of the game with 12:51 remaining. Murray added his second goal at the 11:04 mark of the fourth before completing his hat trick with just 2:35 remaining in the game.

Freshman Tyler Bentrewicz (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) scored the first goal of his collegiate career with 4:03 remaining in the fourth quarter and sophomore goaltender Zach Hoffman (Loudonville, N.Y./LaSalle Institute) recorded 15 saves on 34 shots in the loss.
