PURCHASE, N.Y.- The Manhattanville baseball team struggled to produce runs against Purchase on Monday night, falling to the Panthers by a final score of 6-2 in non-conference play.

Freshman
Anthony LoFaro (Haworth, N.J./Northern Valley Demarest) made the start on the mound for Manhattanville (14-12), tossing five innings, allowing five runs on nine hits to Purchase (8-9). At the plate, junior
Jake McGrath (Pound Ridge, N.Y./Fox Lane) led the way with two hits and a run. For the Panthers, Matthew Chavez and Robert Michael combined for five hits and three RBIs in the win.

Purchase got on the scoreboard first, scoring in the first inning on an RBI single from Chavez. The Panthers eventually registered another run in the fourth on a fielder's choice to take a 2-0 lead after four. The Valiants notched the game up at two in the fifth as McGrath crossed the plate after an error at second base, which was followed by an RBI single from sophomore
Anthony Iannuzzi (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas).

The Panthers went back to work offensively in the sixth, tallying four runs on five hits, jumping out to a 6-2 lead. LoFaro could not get out of the inning and was replaced by senior TJ Hewett. Neither team would score for the remainder of the contest, as Purchase was able to hang on to its 6-2 lead, taking down the Valiants in non-conference play.
