Michael Lyon (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) pitched a complete game while his classmates got the job done offensively against Delaware Valley on Saturday afternoon, as the Valiants swept the Aggies in a Freedom Conference double header, winning game one 10-5 before a 5-2 game two win.

Lyon tossed seven strong innings for Manhattanville (18-13, 11-5 Freedom) in game two, helping deliver a Freedom Conference series sweep of Delaware Valley (8-15, 2-10 Freedom). At the plate, seniors
Jeff Moskowitz (Succasunna, N.J./Roxbury),
Bobby Guerra (Bronx, N.Y./Arlington),
Kevin Brady (Bronx, N.Y./Fordham Prep) and
Nick Euvino (Bronx, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) combined for seven hits, five RBIs and seven runs in the pair of wins.

Joe Palmeri (Mastic, N.Y./Eastport/South Manor) made the start on the mound in game one, throwing 4 1/3 innings, allowing five runs on eight hits before picking up the no decision. Freshman
Danny Gallagher (Nanuet, N.Y./Paramus Catholic) registered his first collegiate win on the mound after tossing 1 2/3 innings of shutout baseball. The Valiants got going in the first inning, taking a 1-0 lead when sophomore
Robbie Lynch (Bronx, N.Y./Fordham Prep) reached first base on an error at third to bring home junior
Jake McGrath (Pound Ridge, N.Y./Fox Lane). Euvino gave Manhattanville its second run in the second inning, connecting on a sacrifice fly out to right field to score Brady from third.

The Aggies battled back in the fourth, tying the game at two as Liam Constantine roped a two-run triple to left field. With the game tied at two, McGrath and Guerra each brought in a run on RBI singles to center field, putting the Valiants back up by two in the fifth. Delaware Valley got the best of Palmeri in the bottom half of the fifth, taking a 5-4 lead, starting with an RBI double from Corey White. Jeremy Stewart brought in the next run on a single to center before White came around to score on an error at shortstop. Senior TJ Hewett eventually got Manhattanville out of the inning with a 5-4 deficit.

The Valiants put together a big seventh inning, starting with an RBI triple from Anselmi to tie the game at five. Guerra stepped up next, ripping a single through the left side to give Manhattanville back the lead at 6-5. Brady followed the Guerra single with an RBI double to right center before junior
Kurt Hommen (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) scored on a passed ball. Sophomore
John Delahanty (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) added the final runs of the seventh on a two-run single through the left side, giving the Valiants a commanding 10-5 lead headed into the final half inning of play. Gallagher closed the door on the Aggies in the seventh, helping the Valiants pick up a big 10-5 game one win.

Lyon was in complete command in game two, striking out seven batters over seven innings of work, giving up only two runs. The Valiants got started early again in game two, taking a 1-0 lead after the first when Guerra got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. The Aggies eventually tied the game up in the third as Kyle Wenger connected on a sacrifice fly to center field. Moskowitz gave Manhattanville back the lead in the fourth, coming home on a wild pitch. McGrath smoked an RBI triple to right field to make it 3-1 in favor of the Valiants after four. RBI singles from Moskowitz and Delahanty in the fifth allowed Manhattanville to jump out to a 5-1 lead after the fifth. With Lyon dominating the Aggies on the mound, the four-run lead proved to be enough. Lyon gave up only one more run, coming the final inning as Wenger hit a solo home run to right center, pulling the Aggies within three. Lyon retired the final batter of the inning on a strikeout, helping guide the Valiants to a decisive 5-2 game two win.
