Valiants Drop Freedom Conference Opener to Delaware Valley, 6-3

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville men's lacrosse team opened Freedom Conference play with a 6-3 loss to the Delaware Valley Aggies on Thursday. Sophomore Andrew Murray (Yonkers, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) extended his point streak to seven games, netting two goals for the Valiants in the loss.

After scoring 12 goals against the Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins on Monday, the Valiants hoped to replicate their offensive production against the Aggies. Unfortunately, Delaware Valley played shutdown defense the entire afternoon, limiting the quality scoring chances for Manhattanville.

After Murray scored the first goal of the game at the 8:59 mark of the first quarter, the Aggies scored three unanswered goals before Murray was able to again get on the board, this time scoring just six minutes into the second half. Freshman Seth Clauser picked up his first goal of the day at the 5:34 mark of the third quarter, pushing the Aggies lead back to two goals.

The Valiants would again cut the deficit to one when sophomore Ed Motherway (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) scored his ninth goal of the season just 2:31 into the fourth quarter. That was as close as they would get it, however, as the Aggies would score the remaining two goals of regulation en route to a 6-3 win.

Sophomore goaltender Zach Hoffman (Loudonville, N.Y./LaSalle Institute) was solid on the day, turning away 13 shots while keeping the Valiants close throughout majority of the contest.

The Valiants are now 3-5 on the season, 0-1 in Freedom Conference play, and have six days off before hosting Alfred State next Wednesday, April 8, at 4:00 p.m.
