PURCHASE, N.Y.- The Manhattanville baseball team put up five runs in the first inning against Vassar on Wednesday afternoon, but could not score for the rest of the game, as the Brewers eventually chipped away to pull off the comeback, beating the Valiants in non-conference play by a final score of 6-5.

The loss for Manhattanville (23-15) against Vassar (8-17) snaps a four-game winning streak, coming in the final regular season game of the 2015 season. Senior
Joe Palmeri (Mastic, N.Y./Eastport/South Manor) made the start on the mound for the Valiants, tossing five innings, allowing three runs on 10 hits before concluding his day with a no decision. Manhattanville had a 5-0 lead after the first inning, but were unable to produce any runs for the remainder of the contest.

The Valiants jumped out early on the Brewers, starting with a two-run double from sophomore
Robbie Lynch (Bronx, N.Y./Fordham Prep), which was eventually followed by a two run single from senior
Jeff Moskowitz (Succasunna, N.J./Roxbury). A double steal from Moskowitz and classmate
Nick Euvino (Bronx, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) eventually made it 5-0 as Euvino made his way across home plate.

Vassar third basemen Bobby Kinne was the difference for the Brewers on Wednesday. Kinne went 4-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs and a run scored, finding an answer every time he stepped up. The Brewers scored their first run of the game in the third inning, as Kinne brought in a run on an RBI single to right field, making it 5-1 after three.

The Brewers pulled within two runs in the fifth inning, coming off an RBI single from Kyle Casey that ended up bringing home another run on a throwing error in right field. Kinne brought in a run in both the sixth and eighth innings before a field error at second base scored the winning run for Vassar in the ninth. Junior
Julian Ponce (Port Chester, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) and freshman
Thomas Contrelli (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) combined to give up three runs in four innings of relief work, as the Brewers made the comeback to beat the Valiants by a final score of 6-5.
