Valiants Score Two Goals Late, Defeating Delaware Valley 8-7

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Manhattanville women's lacrosse team rallied back with two goals in the last 2:35 of play, beating the Delaware Valley Aggies by a final score of 7-6. Sophomore MJ Caro scored the game-winning goal, the first of her career, with just 44 seconds to play.

After making the drive down to Delaware Valley, the Valiants came out with intensity. Freshman AnnaMarie Nardone (Thornwood, N.Y./Westlake) continues her impressive rookie campaign; her unassisted goal put the Valiants up 1-0 before senior Meghann Haggerty (Centerport, N.Y./Harborfields) made it 2-0 with her 21st goal of the year at 14:58 mark of the first half.

Freshman attacker Graeleigh Lackey scored for the Aggies, cutting the deficit to 2-1 before sophomore Sarah Dalsey (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) scored her first goal of the game with 4:49 remaining, giving the Valiants a two-goal lead heading into halftime.

Delaware Valley came out of the locker room a different team, scoring five goals in a 13 minute span to start the second half. Haggerty was able to add one goal in the midst of the five for the Aggies, but with 15 minutes to play, it was Delaware Valley who now had the lead, 6-4.

In a game that lacked quality officiating, the Valiants continued to find themselves on the short-end of a few disappointing calls. The Valiants had two goals disallowed for reasons that don't quite make sense, but the team never stopped battling.

Nardone scored her second of the game at the 13:36 mark, cutting the deficit to one.  With 9:28 remaining Haggerty completed her hat trick, tying the game at six. Lackey would again strike for the Aggies, putting them back ahead 7-6 with 4:12 remaining in the contest.

With 2:35 remaining, Dalsey put in her second of the game before sophomore MJ Caro scored on a man-down situation with only 44 seconds remaining. As the stunned, hostile crowd looked on and booed; the Valiants improved to 1-0 in the Freedom Conference standings.

The team will now host two non-conference games against Western Connecticut State next Tuesday, April 7 at 6:00 p.m. and Kean University April 9 at 4:00 p.m. before hosting the Eastern Eagles next Saturday in a Freedom Conference tilt.
