NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The Manhattanville College women's volleyball team suffered its first defeat of the 2015 season on Friday night, falling to Middlebury College by a 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-21) score on day one of the Smith College Tournament.
Junior
Alissa Primavera (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) led Manhattanville (4-1) with six kills on the night, while senior
Allison Regan (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) and sophomore
Meagan Dattoma (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) added five kills apiece. Junior
Megan Quinabo (Pearl City, Hawaii/Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama) chipped in a team-best 15 assists and freshman
Christina Nardi (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) registered a team-leading 14 digs as well.
Middlebury (1-0) was paced by Becca Raffel, who recorded 14 kills and eight digs, and Eliana Schaefer, who picked up nine kills. Melanie English also added seven kills (on .538 hitting) and five blocks for the Panthers, who were making their 2015 season debut on Friday.
The Panthers finished the night hitting .284, with 42 kills and only 11 errors on 109 attempts. The Valiants hit at only an .084 clip, with 25 kills and 17 errors on 95 attacks.
Manhattanville will be back in action for two matches tomorrow at Smith, as the Valiants take on Ursinus College at 11 a.m. and Husson University at 1 p.m.
