MADISON, N.J. – The Manhattanville College men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss against #23 Drew University Saturday afternoon.
The Valiants (4-3-1 overall) held tough against Drew (7-1-1 overall) for most of the game, allowing the game's lone goal in the 49th minute, when Ranger Ian Pavlak headed home a cross from Marlon Rodriguez and beat freshman goalkeeper
Markus Schwarz (Vienna, Austria/Al Bateen Secondary School).
Manhattanville had a chance to even the scoring in the second half. Senior defender
Eddie Silber (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) headed a ball on goal off of a corner kick, but was turned aside on a great diving save by Ranger goalkeeper John Marques.
The Valiants hung tough against the Rangers who were voted into the Top-25 poll by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America this past week. The defense had another strong performance despite facing strong pressure from the Drew attackers. Schwarz was extremely impressive in his starting debut, making seven saves on the afternoon to keep Manhattanville in the game.
Despite being outshot on the afternoon, the Valiants had opportunities in the second half to tie the game, but were unable to break through against Marques who recorded his fifth shutout of the year.
The Valiants will return to action Tuesday, September 29, when they play host to the United States Merchant Marine Academy. Kickoff is set for 7:30 P.M.
