Sullivan and DeMarco Score as Women's Soccer Dominates John Jay

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Seniors Dani Sullivan (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) and Christie DeMarco (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream South) found the back of the net as the Manhattanville College women's soccer team dominated John Jay College on the way to a 2-0 victory in non-conference action on a sunny Saturday afternoon at GoValiants.com Field.

DeMarco led Manhattanville (2-4-0) with a match-high three points, accounting for both Valiant tallies with a goal and an assist. Sullivan also scored and classmate Nicolette Diodati (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) picked up an assist as well for the home team.

Manhattanvile dominated play all afternoon long against the Bloodhounds, posting a decisive 27-2 edge in shots and keeping John Jay (1-5-2) without a shot for the final 74:14 of the match. Junior Dolores Diemicke (North Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) needed to make only one easy save in the 10th minute on the way to her fifth career shutout, while John Jay keeper Andrea Antoni kept her team in the contest by turning aside 15 shots, including several in acrobatic fashion.

The Valiants took some time to settle into the match, but were able to control almost complete possession throughout the match versus the Bloodhounds. Sullivan opened the scoring in the 14th minute, taking a nice through ball from DeMarco and beating Antoni one-on-one for her first tally of the season.

The home team struck again less than five minutes later at the 18:19 mark, and this time it was DeMarco on the receiving end of a nice cross from Diodati. The senior put away the pass from the middle of the goalmouth for her team-leading third goal of the season, which also made her just the 11th player in program history to reach the 20-goal plateau for a career.

Manhattanville kept the pressure on essentially for the remainder of the contest and earned multiple excellent chances at goal, but Antoni managed to keep the Valiants off the scoreboard the rest of the way.

Manhattanville will continue its five-match homestand on Wednesday afternoon, when the Valiants host the College of Mount Saint Vincent for a 4 p.m. matchup at GoValiants.com Field.
