Pijaca Notches Another Program Mark but Valiants Fall to Beacons 5-0

BOSTON, Mass. – Freshman goaltender Rose Pijaca (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Academy) made 43 saves, but Manhattanville was once again held scoreless on the offensive end, falling 5-0 to UMass Boston in a New England Hockey Conference matchup Friday evening.

Pijaca again wrote her name in the record books, taking the fourth spot in program history for most saves in a single game, one shy of her third place mark set against Williams College ten days ago.

Junior Kayley Romano (Viera, Fla./Boston Shamrocks) led Manhattanville on the offensive end with four shots on goal on a night where the Valiants (6-12-0 overall, 4-7-0 NEHC) found themselves outshot 48-23 by the Beacons (10-9-0 overall, 8-3-0 NEHC).

The Beacons took the lead in the first period on goals from Alexa Cappione and Alexandra Karlis.  UMass Boston would tally a goal in each period to take home the 5-0 victory.

Beacon goaltender Rachel Myette was solid on goal for the Beacons, stopping all 23 Valiant attempts to record her second shutout of the season for UMass Boston.

Manhattanville will look to bounce back tomorrow against Nichols College when they return home to Playland Ice Casino in a matinee matchup of conference opponents.  Gametime for the matchup against the Bison is scheduled for 3:00 P.M.
