Manhattanville Women's Soccer Blanked by DeSales, 4-0

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Manhattanville College women's soccer team traveled to DeSales University for a MAC Freedom contest on Wednesday afternoon, dropping a 4-0 decision to the Bulldogs at the DUC Soccer Field.

Angelica Bertola led DeSales (7-6-0, 3-0-0 MAC Freedom) by playing a role in three of her team's four goals, scoring twice and adding an assist. Jess Wetherhold added a goal and an assist while Danni Engwall also scored for the home team.

The two teams engaged in a defensive struggle for the first 30 minutes before the Bulldogs started to take control, getting on the board first in the 31st minute when Wetherhold placed a free kick from the top of the box perfectly inside the left post. Bertola added her first of the match in the 37th minute after getting by senior keeper Dolores Diemicke (North Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) following a through ball from Wetherhold.

DeSales added two more in the second half, getting Engwall's tally in the 49th minute and Bertola's second of the afternoon in the 54th minute.

For the match, DeSales outshot Manhattanville by a 22-3 margin. Diemicke reached double figures in saves for the sixth time this season, stopping 10 shots to keep the margin at four.

Manhattanville (3-8-1, 0-3-0 MAC Freedom) will look to snap its three-match losing streak on Saturday, when the Valiants host King's (Pa.) College in their annual Breast Cancer Awareness game beginning at 4 p.m.
