ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's volleyball team extended its winning streak to a season-high four matches with two victories on Saturday afternoon at the Bard College Tri-Match. The Valiants defeated SUNY Delhi, 3-0, before coming back for a 3-1 win over the host Raptors.
Manhattanville (13-6) hit .273 on the afternoon in picking up the two victories, with seven different players recording at least three kills. Junior
Asia Reid (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Nellie A. Thornton High School) led all players with 21 kills and classmate
Meagan Dattoma (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) recorded 15 kills, 13 digs and five aces in a good all-around effort. Senior
Adrianna Alves (New Rochelle, N.Y./Maria Regina) led the team with 20 digs on the day.
Junior
Kerry Mackey (Smithtown, N.Y./Christ the King) continued to be a presence at the net with 18 kills and a day-high nine blocks, and in the process moved into fifth place all-time with 635 kills in just her third season. Senior
Megan Quinabo (Pearl City, Hawaii/Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama) added 59 assists, 15 digs and three aces, and moved up to fourth place on the school's career digs list with 1,075.
The Valiants made quick work of SUNY Delhi in the first match of the day, winning by a 3-0 (25-9, 25-9, 25-13) score.
Reid led a balanced Valiant attack with nine kills, followed by Mackey with seven kills on just nine attempts (.667) to go with a match-best three blocks. Sophomore
Laura LiVolsi (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) and freshman
Odyssey Andrews (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining) chipped in four kills apiece, while senior
Emma Banevicius (West Hartford, Conn./Northwest Catholic) registered three kills as well.
Dattoma had a solid all-around effort with five kills, five digs and a match-high four aces, while Quinabo also performed well with 23 assists, seven digs, three kills and two aces.
Manhattanville did an excellent job of stemming any potential SUNY Delhi runs on the afternoon, especially in the first two sets. After the Broncos scored their first three points consecutively in each set, the Valiants did not allow a single point on the opponents' serve on the way to a 2-0 lead. In the third set, Manhattanville scored eight straight points on Reid's serve to open up a 12-3 lead and cruised the rest of the way.
Manhattanville dropped its first set in the next match of the day against Bard, but the Valiants rebounded nicely to take the final three in a 3-1 (16-25, 25-18, 25-16, 25-22) victory.
Reid again led the Valiants with 12 kills on .385 hitting, followed by Mackey with 11 kills, a career-high six blocks, five digs and three aces. LiVolsi added eight kills and 10 digs as well for the visitors.
The Valiants hit negatively in dropping the first set, but came back to hit .319 over the final three frames. Mackey was big in the third set, putting down five kills to go with three blocks and three aces to help Manhattanville take a 2-1 lead. Four Valiants had at least three kills in the final frame, as the squad registered 15 kills with only two errors to close out the Raptors.
Manhattanville will get back into MAC Freedom action on Tuesday night, when the Valiants travel to DeSales University for a big conference clash beginning at 7 p.m.
