Men's Soccer Stays Alive with 6-1 Win on Senior Day

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Valiants scored three goals in the first 15 minutes to take a commanding lead early on and held on to take down Delaware Valley 6-1 on a cold and windy afternoon in Purchase, N.Y.

Senior Omar Parra (Gulfport, Miss./Gulfport) took advantage of Senior Day at GoValiants.com Field, getting  the scoring started with a goal in the 12th minute, and followed it up with his 16th goal of the year less than two minutes later to give the Valiants (10-7, 3-3 MAC Freedom) the early 2-0 lead.

After the Aggies (5-10-1, 0-6 MAC Freedom) responded with a goal off the head of Nick Miller 48 seconds later, the Valiants answered immediately when Parra found junior Robin Schaufele (Kalix, Sweden/Kungsfaegeln) 50 seconds later to retake a three-goal lead.

Late in the first half, Manhattanville tacked on another goal when junior Jeffrey Carreira (Yonkers, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) found sophomore Jack Balasiano (Fishkill, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes) with a beautiful backheel pass to get by a defender for his second goal of the season.  Striking again quickly, Schaufele found the back of the net for the second time three minutes later to take a 5-1 lead that they would take into the halftime break.

In the second half the Valiants continued to have opportunities, finally breaking through in the 79th minute when junior Oskar Martinsson (Orust, Sweden/Uddevalla Gymnasieskola) volleyed home a free kick from freshman Cristian Araujo (Miami, Fla./Miami Palmetto) to give Manhattanville a 6-1 lead.

With the win the Valiants remain alive in the MAC Freedom postseason race and will need a win in their conference finale against Wilkes University next Saturday to remain in the mix.
