Reid and Mackey Lead Women's Volleyball to a Split at Marywood Tri-Match

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Juniors Asia Reid (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Nellie A. Thornton High School) and Kerry Mackey (Smithtown, N.Y./Christ the King) combined for 47 kills in six sets as the Manhattanville College women's volleyball team split two matches at the Marywood University Tri-Match on Saturday afternoon. The Valiants started the day with a 3-0 win over Immaculata University before a close 3-0 defeat to the host Pacers.
 
Reid led Manhattanville (14-8) with 25 kills on stellar .511 hitting in the two matches, making only two errors on 45 attacks, while also adding a team-best four blocks. Mackey was close behind with 22 kills on .345 hitting and two blocks.
 
Mackey and Reid combined to post more kills than Immaculata in the first match of the day, as the Valiants rolled to a 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-10) win over the Mighty Macs.
 
Mackey hit .478 with 12 kills and one error on 23 attacks, and she was matched by Reid with 12 kills on 21 attacks for a .476 hitting percentage. Senior Sam Miano (Bronx, N.Y./Maria Regina) recorded her first career double-double with 13 assists and 10 digs, while classmate Adrianna Alves (New Rochelle, N.Y./Maria Regina) tied for the match-high with 17 digs.
 
The Valiants hit well again in the second match of the day, but came up just a few points short in a 3-0 (25-22, 27-25, 25-21) loss to Marywood.
 
Reid again led the way for the Valiants, hitting .542 with 13 kills on 24 errorless attempts, followed by Mackey with 10 kills. Senior Megan Quinabo (Pearl City, Hawaii/Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama) added a double-double with 18 assists and 11 digs to go with a team-best three aces, while Miano just missed another double-double with 15 assists and nine digs. Alves and junior Meagan Dattoma (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) both chipped in a match-high 16 digs as well for the visitors.
 
Manhattanville will now get ready for its biggest match of the year on Wednesday night, as the Valiants host FDU-Florham at 7 p.m. with their first-ever berth in the MAC Freedom Tournament on the line.
