Vallarelli's OT Game-Winner Lifts Women's Soccer Over DelVal on Senior Day

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Sophomore Lauren Vallarelli (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) scored the only goal of the game 3:27 into overtime to lift the Manhattanville College women's soccer team to a 1-0 (OT) victory over Delaware Valley University on a cold and blustery Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at GoValiants.com Field.

After more than 93 minutes of scoreless action, Manhattanville (4-10-1, 1-5-0 MAC Freedom) finally broke through on its third corner kick of the afternoon. Senior Kerri Durkin (Mahopac, N.Y./John F. Kennedy Catholic) took the corner and it was headed to the back post by senior Dolores Diemicke (North Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge), who came out of net to play the field late in the second half. The flick went right to Vallarelli, who redirected the ball into an open net for her fourth goal of the season.

The game was the final home regular-season game for Manhattanville's five seniors: Diemicke, Durkin, Melissa Barcia (Somers, N.Y./Somers), Alex Carlbom (Gothenburg, Sweden/Kents Hill School) and Amanda Chaparro (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon).

The goal finally finished off a match that saw many great opportunities for both teams, as the two squads combined for 28 shots before Vallarelli's game-winner.

Diemicke made seven saves in the first 75:43 before moving to forward, while freshman Gabriella Beltrami (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) made one save over the final 17:44 to earn her first collegiate victory. DelVal's Emily Schukraft made nine saves to keep her team in the game as well.

The Valiants finished the match with a 17-12 edge in total shots, including a 10-8 advantage in shots on goal.

Manhattanville will close out the 2016 campaign next Saturday, when the Valiants travel to Wilkes University for a 5 p.m. match.
