MADISON, N.J. – In a game to determine their conference seeding, the Valiants came up short against FDU-Florham, falling 2-1 in their final regular season game of 2016.
With the loss, the Valiants drop to the number three seed in the MAC Freedom tournament, and will travel to King's next Wednesday to in the first round.
The Devils (13-6, 6-1 MAC Freedom) clinched the number one seed with the win and outplayed Manhattanville (11-6, 4-3 MAC Freedom) the entire game. The Valiants trailed 18-3 in the shot column and 8-1 in penalty corners.
The Devils took an early lead Thursday, scoring just over five minutes into the contest on a shot from Chrissy Penney to make it 1-0. In the 27th minute Maggie Sohns doubled the lead with her second goal of the season.
The Valiants were held without a shot in the first half, and it took until there were 14 seconds remaining for Manhattanville to find the back of the cage on a penalty stroke goal from sophomore Nicole Fanelle but it was too little too late for the Valiants who fell 2-1.
Manhattanville now turns its sights to the postseason as they prepare to take on the Lady Monarchs of King's College next Wednesday at 7:00 pm. A full preview of the MAC Freedom tournament can be found at GoValiants.com early next week.
