Volleyball Completes Perfect Home Schedule with Senior Day Sweep of NJCU and CSI

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's volleyball team hit .282 as a group and received contributions from all four seniors as the Valiants completed a perfect season at Kennedy Gym with a pair of 3-0 victories over New Jersey City University and the College of Staten Island on Senior Day on Saturday.

With the two wins, Manhattanville (17-8) completes the first perfect home schedule ever for the program, while the nine victories at Kennedy Gym this year are second-most in a season in team history, behind only the 10 home wins in 13 games back in 1987.

A trio of non-seniors led the offensive charge for Manhattanville in the regular-season finale. Junior Kerry Mackey (Smithtown, N.Y./Christ the King) put down a team-best 19 kills on .486 hitting, sophomore Laura LiVolsi (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) had 17 kills and only one error for a .593 hitting percentage, and junior Asia Reid (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Nellie A. Thornton High School) put down 13 kills.

All four Valiant seniors also made big contributions to the wins as well. Megan Quinabo (Pearl City, Hawaii/Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama) recorded 58 assists, 11 digs and six aces, and finished the day a mere four assists away from reaching the 3,000 mark for her career. Emma Banevicius (West Hartford, Conn./Northwest Catholic) put down seven kills and added nine digs and two blocks in a solid all-around effort, and Adrianna Alves (New Rochelle, N.Y./Maria Regina) chipped in a team-best 21 digs to go with five aces and three assists. Sam Miano (Bronx, N.Y./Maria Regina) added three kills, 15 digs, two assists and two aces as well.

Manhattanville hit .253 as a team in the first match of the day, as the Valiant swept New Jersey City by a 3-0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-20) score.

LiVolsi and Reid led the team with nine kills apiece, with LiVolsi hitting .500 on her 16 attacks and Reid adding three blocks to her statline. Quinabo picked up 26 assists, Alves dug out a team-leading 10 balls and Banevicius added three kills, two digs and two blocks for the home team.

The Valiants hit very well in their second match of the day, putting down 39 kills on 94 attempts (.309) in a 3-0 (25-15, 25-7, 25-13) sweep of Staten Island.

Mackey was tremendous against the Dolphins, putting down 13 kills on 21 errorless attempts for a .619 hitting percentage, the second highest percentage of her career with at least 10 kills. LiVolsi hit at an even better clip, finishing at .727 with eight kills on 11 errorless attacks, and also added 10 digs. Miano added a team-leading 13 digs to go with three kills and a pair of assists as well for the home team.

Manhattanville will now set its sights on the first MAC Freedom Tournament appearance in school history on Wednesday, when the third-seeded Valiants travel to second-seeded DeSales University for a 7 p.m. matchup. A full postseason preview will be available this week on GoValiants.com.
