PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Valiants continued their impressive penalty corner offense, converting two corners into goals and adding a third from junior
Lisa Maxwell (Wassenaar, Netherlands/Maerlant Lyceum) to take down the Colonials of Western Connecticut State 3-0 Wednesday afternoon at GoValiants.com Field.
Â
Senior
Bregje Smits (Bussum, Netherlands/Willen de Zwigger College) and junior
Melissa Stys (Pequannock, N.J./Kent School) continued their strong connection Wednesday, connecting for the first two goals of the afternoon as the Valiants improved to 7-4 overall on the season. Stys redirected a Smits shot from the top of the arc off of a corner in the 10th minute to give the Valiants the early 1-0 advantage. The two reversed roles 20 minutes later when Smits fired a missile from the top of the arc for her tenth goal of the season to give Manhattanville a 2-0 lead that they would take into the halftime break.
Â
In the 50th minute, Maxwell put the game out of reach for good, knocking in a loose ball from Stys in front of the goalmouth for her second goal of the season.Â
Â
In goal, junior
Kaitlin Halloran (Nesconset, N.Y./Smithtown East) needed just one save to earn her sixth win of the season as the Valiants held the Colonials (3-9 overall) to just five shots in the game.Â
Â
The Valiants continue their homestand this weekend in the first leg of a Valiant triple-header at GoValiants.com Field when they host conference foe Wilkes University at 12:00 pm.
