PURCHASE, N.Y. – Senior
Ashley Raaf (Rockaway Beach, N.Y./Christ The King) dropped a career-high 32 points to lead the Valiants past the Blue Jays of the University of Saint Joseph Thursday evening in the final non-conference matchup of the season for women's basketball.
Raaf shined throughout the game, scoring an even 16 points in both halves.  With the performance, the senior now has 968 career points, needing 32 points to become the 15th Valiant in program history to eclipse the 1,000 point plateau for her career.  Her total for the day also puts her in a tie for eighth place all-time in program for points in a game, matching the mark set by assistant coach
Taylor Wilson '13, and Olivia Nastasi '09.
Manhattanville (17-7 overall) had 13 different players score in the win.  Sophomore
Samantha Milazzo (Bellmore, N.Y./John F Kennedy) added eight points and eight rebounds in just eight minutes of play off the bench for the Valiants.  Junior
Brittany Deieso (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) and freshman
Ivy Coles (Freeport, N.Y./Christ The King) combined for 10 points, four assists, and six steals off the bench as well.
The Valiants led wire-to-wire in the win.  As a team, Manhattanville shot an impressive 42 percent from the field, while shutting down the Blue Jays attack on the opposite end of the floor.  Saint Joseph shot just 28 percent from the field, and the Valiant defense forced 28 turnovers, leading to a huge 33-12 advantage for Manhattanville in the points off turnovers category.
Manhattanville returns to action Saturday for their final regular season matchup.  The Valiants will host Misericordia University at 1:00 P.M. on senior day as the team looks to build up momentum heading into the MAC Freedom postseason next week.
