Valiant Bats Come Alive to Outlast King's in Offensive Shootout

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The bats came alive for the Manhattanville College baseball team Tuesday afternoon as the Valiants came out on top in a high scoring, back and forth game with King's College 18-11, taking the season series against the Monarchs.

The 18 runs scored by the Valiants tie their season high, matching the offensive output against Purchase College last Tuesday.  The 22 hits by the Valiants is the highest hit total in a single game since April 6, 2012 against FDU-Florham.

Juniors Robbie Lynch (Bronx, N.Y./Fordham Prep) and John Delahanty (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) each drove in four runs apiece for Manhattanville (7-6 overall, 2-1 MAC Freedom).  Senior Jordanis Nunez (Bronx, N.Y./St. Raymond) and sophomore Danny Gallagher (Nanuet, N.Y./Paramus Catholic) each recorded three RBI's on the day, and junior Chris Conklin (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Lakeland) led the Valiants with four hits on the day.  Senior Sam Garito (New Rochelle, N.Y./Iona Prep) was once again effective out of the bullpen for the Valiants, pitching 3.1 innings, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out three on his way to his second career victory with Manhattanville.

King's (10-5 overall, 1-2 MAC Freedom) jumped out on top in the first inning when Chris Rebar blasted his first of two homeruns on the day to give the Monarchs a 2-0 advantage.  The Valiants responded quickly in the bottom of the first with two runs of their own to knot the score after the first frame.

The Monarchs touched up junior John Moschetti (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas) for four runs in the third inning, ending his day on the mound and taking a 6-2 lead into the bottom half of the inning.  In the bottom half of the stanza Lynch drove in his second run of the day on a fielders choice to cut the deficit to three runs.  King's answered again in the fourth when Rebar launched his second homerun of the day to right field.  Sean Padden followed suit with a blast just inside the left field foul pole to make it a 9-3 game.

The Valiants rallied in the fourth, plating six runs on a two run single from Gallagher, a two run double from Nunez, and a two run single from Delahanty.  Despite leveling the score after four innings, the Monarchs looked to end the Valiant momentum in the top of the fifth when they scored twice to take back the lead at 11-9.

Manhattanville once again responded after falling behind, rallying to plate the final nine runs of the game to come away with the victory.  The Valiants scored six runs in the bottom of the seventh to break the game open, taking the lead on a two run double from Lynch and was capped off with an RBI single from junior Anthony Iannuzzi (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas)

The game was called in the bottom of the eighth inning after the Valiants plated two more runs without recording an out to begin the inning.  After an injury delay, the coaches and umpires decided to make the game official due to darkness, giving the Valiants the win and securing the season series against King's.

Manhattanville has little time off before returning to action, hosting William Paterson University tomorrow afternoon at Manhattanville Field.  First pitch for that contest is slated for 3:30 pm.
