DANBURY, Conn. – Freshman
Francisco Jaile (Hartsdale, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) tossed six innings, allowing just three runs to earn his first win of the 2016 season as Manhattanville defeated Western Connecticut State Thursday 6-4 in non-conference play.

Robbie Lynch (Bronx, N.Y./Fordham Prep) each racked up two hits on the night for the Valiants (15-9 overall). Seniors

Joe Anselmi (North Rockland, N.Y./North Rockland) and Lynch each drove in a run in the win. On the mound, sophomore
Antonio Ogando (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic) and freshman
William Tempone (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown East) each pitched an inning of relief for Manhattanville. Sophomore
John Fanelli (Bronx, N.Y./Fordham Prep) pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn his first save of the season.
Manhattanville jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Sophomore
Danny Gallagher (Nanuet, N.Y./Paramus Catholic) singled and promptly stole second before Nunez brought him home with a single up the middle. Lynch followed up with a double to left field to score Nunez to make it 2-0. Anselmi tripled to right center to score Lynch before freshman
Luke Scoggins (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) scored on a throwing error to cap off the four-run inning.
After scoring on an error in the fourth inning, McGrath made it a 6-0 game with a double to right field to score freshman
Nick Simmons (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham). The Colonials tacked on three runs in the sixth inning and a single run in the eighth but Fanelli's scoreless ninth inning sealed the victory for the Valiants.
Manhattanville will have a quick turnaround as they have five games on the schedule over the next three days. The Valiants begin their weekend of conference play by hosting Wilkes University at 3:30 P.M. Friday, before traveling to Wilkes-Barre, Pa. for two games to wrap up the season series. The Valiants return to home Sunday for two games against first place Misericordia.
