Valiants Fall Victim to Lady Monarch Surge in 15-10 MAC Freedom Loss

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Manhattanville College women's lacrosse team was outscored 8-1 in a pivotal 20-minute stretch surrounding halftime as King's (Pa.) College picked up a 15-10 victory over the Valiants in MAC Freedom play on Saturday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium.

King's (4-9, 2-3 MAC Freedom) was paced by Amanda Carroll with a game-high five goals in leading the Lady Monarchs to the victory. She was helped by Anastasia Araviakis, who recorded a game-high seven points on three goals and four assists.

Junior Jenna Nance (Glendale, Calif./Glendale) led Manhattanville (5-9, 0-4 MAC Freedom) with four goals, followed by sophomore Carly Weiss (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) with three tallies and junior Sarah Dalsey (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) with two goals and an assist. Freshman Kat Reilly (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) also added a goal and an assist for the visitors.

Nance scored Manhattanville's first two goals of the game to keep the score even 2:40 into the contest. After King's scored three in a row, the visitors came back with three of the next four, finished off by Weiss' first of the day that made it a 6-5 score with 8:46 left in the half.

However, King's scored the final two goals of the first half and then six of the first seven in the second stanza, suddenly taking an insurmountable 14-6 advantage with 15:07 left on the clock. The Valiants scored four in a row after that, but time ran out on the Valiants in their seventh straight defeat.

Manhattanville led in shot attempts on the afternoon, 33-30, but had 13 shots stopped by King's keeper Courtney Stefanik. Valiant junior Lauren Cassidy (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) made nine saves for the visitors.

The Valiants will close out the 2016 season with its last two games at home, beginning on Wednesday with a MAC Freedom matchup with Wilkes University beginning at 4 p.m.
