Men's Lacrosse Falls to King's in Season Finale 12-4

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Valiants were unable to overcome a slow start in the second quarter, dropping their final game of the season to King's College 12-4 Saturday afternoon on senior day.

Senior Connor Normandin (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) scored a goal in his final game in a Manhattanville uniform in the loss.  Freshman Erik Sparby (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) found the back of the net twice and sophomore Tyler Bentrewicz (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) scored his team best 25th goal of the season.  Bentrewicz and sophomore Chris Ayson (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) each added an assist on the day as well.

Defensively, junior Ed Seganti (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) made nine saves in his third career start between the pipes, allowing 12 goals on 21 shots on target.  Freshmen Soya Goto (Rye, N.Y./Rye) and Sam Hahn (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y./Briarcliff) recorded three ground balls each on the day, with Hahn causing two Monarch turnovers.

In the faceoff circle, freshman Brandon Neff (Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Vista) won seven draws, his second highest total of the season.

The Valiants (4-12 overall, 1-5 MAC Freedom) got the games' scoring started with a goal from Sparby just over three minutes into the contest.  After King's (3-11 overall, 2-5 MAC Freedom) scored twice to take the lead, Bentrewicz scored late in the quarter to even the score at two goals apiece after the first 15 minutes of play.

The second quarter proved to be the tipping point in the game, as the Monarchs scored four times while shutting out the Valiants to head into halftime leading 6-2.

The four-goal deficit was as close as Manhattanville could come within King's the rest of the way. Sparby added a goal in the third and Normandin scored his final career goal in the fourth quarter but it was too little, as the Valiants fell to King's by the 12-4 final.
