PURCHASE, N.Y. – Freshman
Kat Reilly (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) led all players with a season-high six points on four goals and two assists as the Manhattanville College women's lacrosse team sent off its seniors with a 15-8 win over Delaware Valley University on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at GoValiants.com Field.
Six different players found the net for Manhattanville (6-10, 1-5 MAC Freedom) in the victory, led by Reilly's game-high four goals. Sophomore
Carly Weiss (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) and junior
Jenna Nance (Glendale, Calif./Glendale) both scored three times, while fellow juniors
Olivia Drew (York, Maine/York) and
Sarah Dalsey (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) scored twice apiece and sophomore
Katie Zambrotta (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) also chipped in with a goal.
The Valiants posted a 48-22 edge in shots on the afternoon and a 27-14 advantage in ground balls. Junior
Lauren Cassidy (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) earned the win by turning aside 11 shots over the 60 minutes.
Reilly opened the scoring 1:22 into the contest with her first of the game, but that was followed by back-to-back Aggie scores to put DelVal up for the first time. However, Manhattanville came back with four in a row, including two goals in nine seconds from Drew and Weiss and then two more in 42 seconds from Zambrotta and Dalsey, to take back the lead for the final time.
The teams traded goals for the next seven minutes, before back-to-back goals from Reilly and Weiss closed the half to put Manhattanville ahead 9-5 at the break.
Nance started the second half with her second of the game 34 seconds into the period and Reilly added her fourth of the afternoon at the 6:31 mark to give the Valiants an 11-5 edge. The lead ballooned to as many as eight late in the second half, when Dalsey scored from Zambrotta with 6:48 to put Manhattanville up 15-7.
The game marks the final collegiate contest for Valiant seniors
Chloe Gauthier (Oceanside, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) and
Grace Kraemer (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa), who were honored by the team before the game.
Manhattanville ends the season with six wins, the most by a Valiant team since 2011 and the second-most since 2009. The Valiants are slated to return all but one starter next year, when the team will look to contend for a MAC Freedom Tournament berth.
