DANBURY, Conn. – The Manhattanville College women's soccer team had its brief two-game unbeaten streak come to a halt on Thursday afternoon as the Valiants dropped a 4-0 match to Western Connecticut State University in non-conference action at the Western Athletic Complex.
Bailey Julian led Western Connecticut (4-3-1) with a pair of goals, including the game-winner in the 13th minute, while Autumn Sorice had a goal and an assist as well for the Colonials in the victory.
WCSU took the first shot of the game just 38 seconds into the action and, while senior
Dolores Diemicke (North Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) was there for the save, it set the tone for most of the afternoon. The Valiant defense was kept busy all match long by the Colonials, who finished with a 19-4 edge in total shots.
All four of the home team's goals came in the opening 45 minutes, beginning with Julian's first of the year at the 12:51 mark. Sorice followed in the 25th minute with her fourth of the season and she then assisted on Julian's second marker of the match at 31:41 of the half. Stacey Weinberg finished the scoring with an unassisted tally 2:52 before halftime.
Diemicke made seven saves for Manhattanville (2-4-1) over the first 77:24 of the afternoon before freshman
Gabriella Beltrami (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) came on to make one save over the final 12:36.
The Valiants will return to action on Saturday, when the team hosts Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at GoValiants.com Field beginning at 4 p.m.
