RYE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College men's hockey team started its seven-game homestand with a disappointing 4-0 loss to Williams College in non-conference action on Friday afternoon at Playland Ice Casino.
Four different players found the back of the net and nine players tallied one point each for Williams (7-4-2), while Manhattanville (8-8-0) was shut out for the first time since the 2014-15 season.
The Valiants started strong on Friday, taking eight shots to Williams' three over the first 10 minutes, but the only goal of the frame came off the stick of an Eph, as Roberto Cellini netted his eighth of the year unassisted at the 14:15 mark.
C.J. Shugart added to the Williams lead on the first shift of the second period when he put home the rebound of a James McNamara shot, and David Italiano gave the Ephs a three-goal lead by converting on a five-on-three advantage with 6:41 left in the second stanza.
Manhattanville posted a 12-4 edge in shots over the final 20 minutes, but the Valiants were unable to solve Williams netminder Stephen Morrissey, who finished the evening with 30 saves. The home team outshot the visitors, 30-25, for the game.
The Valiants will finish off non-conference play tomorrow night, when the team hosts Nichols College in game two of its seven-game homestand beginning at 7 p.m. at Playland.
