NEW LONDON, Conn. - The nationally ranked Camels of Connecticut College proved to be too powerful for the Manhattanville College women's ice hockey team as the Valiants fell 8-0 in their penultimate non-conference game Tuesday evening inside the Dayton Arena.
Senior Olivia Drew (York, Maine/Portland Jr. Pirates) made 18 saves on 24 shots before giving way to freshman Taylor Elias (Winnipeg, Canada/Canadian International Hockey Academy) for the final 17:53 of action. Elias closed the game with six saves on eight shots. Connecticut was paced by Katherine Chester who earned her tenth win of the season after stopping all ten shots she faced through the first 31 minutes. Bailey Mertz helped complete the shutout for Connecticut by stopping 14 shots the rest of the way.
The Camels jumped on top with two goals in the opening 6:15 of the first period on goals from Jordan Cross and Julie Beattie. After a scoreless 15 minutes of play, Connecticut struck again with a shot off the stick of Kyla Floresca to make it 3-0. The Camels used goals by five more skaters the rest of the way, including four goals in the final stanza to come away with the 8-0 victory.
With the loss, Manhattanville is now 9-6-1 on the year, while #9 Connecticut improves to 11-4-2. The Valiants return to New England Hockey Conference action this weekend when they travel to New Hampshire to take on the Pilgrims of New England College Friday evening with puck drop scheduled for 7:00 pm.
