Women's Basketball Upended by First-Place Devils

MADISON, N.J. - A big first half run by the first place Devils proved to be too much for Manhattanville as the Valiants fell to Fairleigh Dickinson 80-44 Wednesday evening inside the Ferguson Recreation Center.

Sophomore Kayleah McGuire (Somers, N.Y./Somers) led Manhattanville with 14 points and six rebounds on the evening.  Fellow classmate Ivy Coles (Freeport, N.Y./Christ The King) netted six points to go along with four assists and four rebounds.  The Devils received two 20-point performances, with Kendrea Williams scoring a game-high 26 points.

In opening four minutes, the Valiants and Devils battled back and forth, with Manhattanville taking a 10-7 lead on a Kelley layup with 6:20 to play in the opening stanza. The lead was short lived however, as the Devils used a 17-0 run over the next five minutes to take a 24-10 lead late in the half.  From there it was all Fairleigh Dickinson the rest of the first half, stretching the lead up to 30 points at the halftime break.

The halftime deficit proved to be too much for Manhattanville, as the Valiants could only match the Devils in the second half, with both teams shooting 32 percent from the field (9-of-28).  Junior Joiada Darnell (St. Albans, N.Y./Humanities and the Arts) scored five of her seven points in the final 20 minutes of action.

The Valiants slip to 2-5 in MAC Freedom play with the loss, while the Devils remain unbeaten at 7-0, keeping the top spot in the conference standings.  Manhattanville will look to bounce back on Saturday when they travel to King's College with tip-off scheduled for 1:00 pm.
