RYE, N.Y. – In their final non-conference matchup of the season, the Manhattanville College women's hockey team dominated Lebanon Valley College for a 6-0 victory to extend its winning streak to three games Tuesday evening inside Playland Ice Casino.
The Valiants defeated the Dutchmen for the second time this season, following up on a 10-0 victory earlier this season on the road. It was all Valiants once again in this one, as Manhattanville outshot Lebanon Valley 75-7 and held the puck in the offensive end for most of the night.
Freshman
Maisey Kettlewood (Nottingham, N.H./Dover) scored her first career goal in her collegiate debut with Manhattanville. Sophomore
Nicole Mensi (Mamaroneck, N.Y./SUNY Plattsburgh) found the back of the net twice for the Valiants, while sophomore
Amanda Sabia (Freehold, N.J./The Gunnery) and juniors
Maeve O'Brien (Chicago, Ill./Loyola Academy),
Melissa Stys (Pequannock, N.J./The Kent School) and
Sarah Sinning (Southold, N.Y./National Sports Academy) all tallied a goal apiece. Freshman netminder
Taylor Elias (Winnipeg, Canada/Canadian International Hockey Academy) stopped all seven shots she faced to improve to 3-1-0 on the season and complete her first career shutout in goal. Jillian Moffatt stopped 69 shots for Lebanon Valley as the freshman continues to close in on the Division III single season record, going past the 1,000 save plateau in the contest.
The Valiants opened the first period with an all-out attack on the Dutchmen, outshooting Lebanon Valley 22-1 in the opening stanza. O'Brien scored her second goal of the season with a wrist shot underneath the glove of Moffatt with just under eight minutes remaining in the period, but Moffatt stopped 21 shots to hold Manhattanville to just a 1-0 advantage at the first intermission.
Manhattanville put the game out of reach in the second period when they potted three goals in six minutes late in the frame. Mensi got the scoring started with her 13th of the season, firing a wrist shot inside the far post to beat Moffatt. Kettlewood then netted her first career goal by putting home a one-timer off an assist from freshman
Amanda Sabia (Freehold, N.J./The Gunnery) in front of the goal mouth. Only 31 seconds later, Stys scored her seventh goal of the season, deflecting home a rebound to make it 4-0 at the second intermission.
Mensi continued the attack in the final frame, finding the back of the net once again, and Sabia capped off the scoring with her third goal of the season from senior
Taryn Harris (Morrison, Colo./Colorado Selects) for the 6-0 final.
The Valiants improve to 12-6-1 on the year with the win. The team will look to continue its strong play as the Valiants enter the last stretch of conference games, as the final six regular-season games will come against NEHC opponents. Manhattanville will have a chance to secure a home postseason game with one win this weekend when the Valiants travel to Saint Michael's College on Friday night and Saint Anselm College on Saturday afternoon.
