Mackey Sets Career Kills Record as Women's Volleyball Sweeps Delaware Valley

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – Senior Kerry Mackey (Smithtown, N.Y./Christ the King) tied for the match-high with seven kills to become Manhattanville College's all-time kills leader as the Valiants breezed past Delaware Valley University, 3-0 (25-23, 25-11, 25-7), in a MAC Freedom women's volleyball matchup on Wednesday night at James Work Gymnasium.

Entering the night needing six kills to break the school record set by Alissa Primavera '16, Mackey put down seven kills on 20 attempts to give her 910 kills for her stellar career. The senior also currently ranks second all-time in hitting percentage (.306) and eighth in blocks (177) at Manhattanville as well.

In addition to Mackey's seven kills and four blocks, classmate Meagan Dattoma (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) also put down seven kills with eight digs and a match-best six aces, matching her career high set in 2015. As a team, the Valiants recorded 20 service aces, the most by the team this season.

Junior Laura LiVolsi (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) added five kills, nine digs and three aces, while freshman Keisha Schutte (Ewa Beach, Hawaii/James Campbell) chipped in 21 assists, six digs, two kills and three blocks. Freshman Monica Lopez (Caguas, Puerto Rico/Notre Dame), who entered the week ranked second in Division III in digs per set, managed 16 digs and also registered four aces.

Manhattanville put down a match-best 10 kills in the opening set, hitting .280 as a team. The Valiants were up by a point at 9-8 before rattling off 10 of the next 14 points to take control of the frame.

The Valiants scored eight straight points on the serve of Lopez to start the second set and then added a good run on Mackey's serve to open up a 15-3 lead and cruise to a set-two win. In the final frame, sophomore Marissa Shamansky (Woodbury, Conn./Henry Abbott Tech) served up seven straight points as part of an 8-0 run before the visitors closed things out with 14 of the match's last 15 points.

Manhattanville will head to the University of Scranton on Friday for another challenging non-conference tri-match against the Royals and Hartwick College beginning at 5 p.m.
