FDU-Florham's Second Half Surge Drops Field Hockey on Senior Night, 4-1

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Manhattanville College field hockey team played solid defensively in the first half, but were unable to hold off a strong second half charge from FDU-Florham on senior night, dropping their final regular season matchup, 4-1.

Prior to the match, the Valiants honored the team's six seniors: goalkeeper Kaitlin Halloran (Nesconset, N.Y./Smithtown East), defenders Haley Linkroum (Deposit, N.Y./Deposit) and Devon Butler (Northport, N.Y./Northport), midfielders Alexis Gerzabek (Branford, Conn./Sacred Heart Academy) and Melissa Stys (Pequannock, N.J./Kent School), and forward Lisa Maxwell (Wassenaar, Netherlands/Maerlant Lyceum).

Maxwell deflected in a shot from Linkroum shortly after the midway point of the opening half for her third goal of the year to get Manhattanville (4-13, 1-6 MACF) on the board first. Halloran finished the half with eight saves, including a penalty shot glove save 14 minutes in, keeping FDU-Florham (13-6, 6-1 MACF) off the board.

The Devils took over and quickly put the game out of reach in the second half, scoring four goals within seven minutes, all off penalty corners. Marissa Kowalskie squared the match at one, knocking home a rebound after an initial defensive save from Linkroum. 59 seconds later, Chrissy Penney put away a pass from Marissa Colvin to put FDU-Florham in front. Kowalskie added an insurance goal less than four minutes later, then assisted on the Devils' final goal of the night from Brooke Sherwin.

The Valiants finished the night with five shot and five penalty corners; FDU-Florham finished with 25 shots and 15 corners. Halloran finished with 14 saves, pushing her career total to 366, good for seventh-most in program history. Linkroum's defensive save gave her 10 for the season, and pushed her program-record to 23.

For the year, junior Emily Antinozzi (Rye, N.Y./Rye) led the Valiants with 12 goals and 25 points, while sophomores Robin Boot (Bedum, Netherlands/H.N. Werkman College) and Ameerah Thomas (Norfolk, Va./Granby) added five goals apiece.
