PURCHASE, N.Y. – Senior
Kerry Mackey (Smithtown, N.Y./Christ the King) became the first player in program history to record 1,000 career kills as the Manhattanville College women's volleyball team celebrated Senior Day with a 3-0 (25-11, 25-8, 25-7) victory over Lehman College on Saturday afternoon at Kennedy Gymnasium.
It was a fitting sendoff for Mackey and fellow seniors
Meagan Dattoma (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) and
Asia-Morgohn Reid (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Nellie A. Thornton), as the trio combined for 31 of Manhattanville's 38 kills in the final match of the season. Mackey led the way with 17 kills on .455 hitting, while Dattoma put down eight kills on .389 hitting and Reid had six kills on eight errorless attempts (.750).
Freshman
Monica Lopez (Caguas, Puerto Rico/Notre Dame) also reset the school's single-season digs record, as her first dig of the match broke a tie with Nicole Schnaars and gave her sole possession of the record. The freshman finished with 15 digs to give her 581 for the year, an average of 6.60 digs per set.
Entering the match needing 17 kills to reach quadruple figures, Mackey had five kills on 11 errorless attacks in the opening set, as the Valiants put down 14 kills with only two errors.
The three seniors combined for 12 kills in the second stanza, as Mackey put down six while Reid and Dattoma added three kills apiece. The Valiants made only one error on 23 attempts in grabbing a two-set advantage.
Mackey added six more kills in the third frame, with the final swing of her collegiate career giving the Valiants a 13-3 lead in the set and earning her 1,000th career kill. Reid and Dattoma combined for the Valiants' last four kills of the match, as the three seniors recorded all 10 kills in the final frame.
Dattoma moved up into fifth place on the school's career kills list by the end of the match, finishing with 647 kills in four seasons, while Reid finished seventh with 638 kills in just three years.
