Men’s Soccer Winning Streak Ends in Double Overtime Heartbreaker

WILKES-BARRE, P.A. – The Manhattanville College men's soccer team dropped their first MAC Freedom Conference match of the season to King's (Pa.) Friday night when Alastair Dinnan notched the lone goal of the match 13 seconds into the second overtime.

The Valiants (6-6-1, 1-1-0 MAC Freedom), looking for their first 2-0 conference start since 2009, were unable to clear a long ball played in from the defense and Dinnan, after having his initial shot blocked, controlled the rebound and put home his third goal of the season.

In a battle pitting a Manhattanville offense that entered the night with 11 goals in their last three matches against a King's defense that had not allowed a goal in their last three matches, it was the King's (8-3-1, 2-0-0 MAC Freedom) defense that prevailed, though just barely.

A long ball into the box from senior Jeff Santos (Yonkers, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) set up classmate Wes Wilson (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) in the closing seconds of the first half, but Wilson was dragged to the turf by his jersey while attempting his shot. The kick went wide as no foul was called, ending the half. Sophomore Cristian Araujo (Miami, Fla./Miami Palmetto) had a look from 12 yards out off a cross from the left bysenior Oskar Martinsson (Orust, Sweden/Uddevalla Gymnasieskola) at the end of the first overtime, but just mis-timed his right-footed volley, pushing the shot wide to the right. Sophomore goalkeeper Tim Carsting (Falun, Sweden/Soltorgsgymnasiet) made five saves for the Valiants before conceding Dinnan's game-winner.

The Valiants are back in action Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. at GoValiants.com Field against a tough DeSales squad.
