WILKES-BARRE, P.A. -- The Manhattanville College women's soccer team conceded a goal in each half, dropping a road MAC Freedom Conference match to King's College Saturday night, 2-0.
A week after two late corner kicks led to the tying and game-winning marks in a 4-3 loss to Eastern, the Valiants struggled with their situational defense, leading to both Monarchs goals.
King's grabbed the lead in the 12
th minute directly off a corner kick when Kristen Ryan curved a shot over the arms of Manhattanville (3-5-1, 0-2 MAC Freedom) sophomore goalkeeper
Bella Beltrami (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury), inside the far post. The Monarchs added to their lead off another corner kick in the 52
nd minute when, off a missed clearance by the Manhattanville defense, Danielle Putnam headed home her team-leading sixth goal of the season just under the crossbar.
King's stifled Manhattanville's offense the entire match, holding the Valiants without a shot on goal for the first time this season. The Valiants are back in action Tuesday night for a 5:00 p.m. MAC Freedom showdown with DeSales.
