Pellowitz's Last-Minute Goal Earns Women's Hockey 2-2 Tie with #8/9 Connecticut College

RYE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's hockey closed out the 2017 calendar year by drawing with the #8/9 Connecticut College Camels Saturday afternoon at Playland Ice Casino, 2-2.

Sophomore Zoey Pellowitz (Arlington, Va./Washington Pride) scored her first goal of the season with 35 seconds remaining in regulation and senior Maeve O'Brien (Chicago, Ill./Chicago Fury) added her second goal in the last three games for Manhattanville (4-3-1). Erin Dillon scored both goals for Connecticut College (4-1-1).

After a defensive battle in the opening period, with both teams taking just five combined shots, O'Brien opened the scoring at 7:40 of the second period when her shot re-directed off a Camels defender and slid by goalie Dylann Nasr. O'Brien's goal marked the 30th point of her collegiate career.

Junior goalie Rose Pijaca (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Academy) saved Connecticut College's first 10 shots before conceding a game-tying goal to Dillon just under seven minutes after O'Brien's score. Just over two minutes later, Dillon struck again for her team-leading fourth goal of the season, putting the Valiants a goal down heading to the final period.

Manhattanville fired 10 shots on Nasr during the final period, but the sophomore turned the first nine away. Off a Manhattanville timeout with 38.9 seconds to play, senior Sarah Sinning (Southold, N.Y./National Sports Academy) beat Lily Connolly on a faceoff in the offensive zone, winning it back to Pellowitz, who fired a shot through traffic and by Nasr, tying the game and creating a scene of pure jubilation from Manhattanville's bench. Pellowitz's goal gave her at least one point in each of the team's last three games.

The two sides played a mostly conservative overtime session, with just four combined shots on goal in the extra five minutes. Connecticut College finished the game with a 27-19 shot advantage; O'Brien had four shots to lead the Valiants.

Manhattanville returns to action at the Rutland Herald Invitational in Vermont January 5 and 6. The team will play SUNY Canton Saturday at 4:00 p.m., then either Castleton or Salem State the following day at 1:00 or 4:00 p.m., dependent on Saturday's results. The team returns to Playland January 10 at 4:00 p.m. against Saint Anselm.
