NEWPORT, R.I. – Despite a second half comeback attempt, the Manhattanville College men's lacrosse team fell to Salve Regina 10-8 in non-conference action Thursday evening at Gaudet Field.
Freshman
T.J. Caccavo (Carlsbad, Calif./San Marcos) scored a collegiate best four goals in the losing effort Thursday, scoring three of his four goals in the second half to lead the comeback attempt. Senior
Andrew Murray (Yonkers, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) had another solid game as well for Manhattanville, scoring three goals on five shots.
Trailing 5-2 at the half, Manhattanville rallied in the third quarter behind a goal from Caccavo and two from Murray to tie the score 5-5 late in the period, but the Seahawks responded in a big way, finding the back of the net twice in the final 41 seconds of the stanza to go back up by two goals with 15 minutes to play.
The Valiants once again attempted to rally, getting within one goal twice on consecutive strikes from Caccavo, but that was as close as they could get as the Seahawks scored consecutive goals to go up by a three-goal margin. A late tally by Murray and a late opportunity to get within one were not enough as the Valiants fell 10-8.
Manhattanville returns to action next Wednesday when they host Delaware Valley University in their MAC Freedom opener at GoValiants.com Field with faceoff scheduled for 4:00 pm.
