Valiants Dominate Mount Saint Vincent for 12-1 Victory

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Led once again by a strong game by freshman Will Duval (Granite Bay, Calif./Granite Bay), the Manhattanville College men's lacrosse team powered past the College of Mount Saint Vincent 12-1 Wednesday evening under the lights of GoValiants.com Field.

Duval led the offensive attack with a five-point game behind two goals and three assists. The West Coast native recorded a point in five of the first six goals of the contest for Manhattanville to help build the controlling lead early. Sophomore Tristan Green (Easton, Conn./Joel Barlow) found the back of the net three times while senior Colin Morriseey scored twice and juniors Tyler Bentrewicz (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) and Christian Flores (Avon, Conn./Avon), senior Ed Motherway (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) and freshmen T.J. Caccavo (Carlsbad, Calif./San Marcos) and Ryan Leonard (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) each scored once in the win. Senior Zach Hoffman (Loudonville, N.Y./LaSalle Institute) stopped six of the seven shots he faced to earn the win before giving way to freshman Jason Frezza (Lake Ronkonkoma/Portledge) who stopped the lone shot he faced.

The Valiants controlled play all night long, winning 12-of-17 faceoffs while holding a 39-24 advantage in ground balls and was an impressive 14-of-17 on clearance attempts. The Valiants made life difficult for the Dolphins causing 12 of Mount Saint Vincent's 28 turnovers on the evening.

In a low scoring opening stanza, Manhattanville netted the only three goals of the opening stanza to take a three-goal edge into the second quarter. The Valiants opened the scoring when Duval found Morrissey for his second goal of the season 8:16 into the season. Duval later found Green with 22 seconds remaining in the quarter to double the lead before the freshman ripped down the net himself 15 seconds later for his sixth tally of the season.

Duval continued his tear in the second quarter, putting home his second of the game before Green scored his second of the game 11 seconds later off the ensuing faceoff. The Crimson and Black added four more goals before the end of the half and took a 9-0 lead into halftime.

Playing with a large lead in the second half, the Valiants allowed just one goal and added three more insurance tallies to come away with the 12-1 victory.

Picking up their second consecutive victory, the Valiants improve to 2-1 on the season while the Dolphins fall to 0-1 in their first game of the year. Manhattanville is scheduled to travel north to Western Connecticut State Saturday for a non-conference bout with the Colonials at 1:00 pm.
