PURCHASE, N.Y. – Freshman
Matt Lynch (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) capped off a four-run ninth inning rally with a walk-off single to give Manhattanville a much-needed MAC Freedom win Tuesday afternoon 5-4 at Manhattanville Field.
The Valiants rallied with four runs in the bottom of the ninth after scoring just one run on four hits against Aggie starter Kevin Crill. The junior recorded a quality start for the Aggies, going 8.0 innings on the mound, allowing just four hits while striking out four. Manhattanville ended the gem with a leadoff walk in the bottom of the ninth, forcing Aggie head coach Bob Altieri to pull his starter with a high pitch count. Sophomore Josh Morgan replaced Crill, but Manhattanville was just getting started. After a called third strike, the Valiants followed with another walk and a fielder's choice to bring the tying run to the plate with two outs. After a walk to freshman
Peter Iannarilli (West Nyack, N.Y./Clarkstown South), the Valiants had the bases loaded with senior
Joe Booker (Port Jefferson, N.Y./Port Jefferson) coming to the plate as a pinch hitter.
Booker worked the count full before delivering another clutch hit in a list of several clutch at bats this season. On the eighth pitch of the at bat, Booker laced a double just inside the left field line and with the base runners running on the pitch, the Valiants cleared the bases to tie the game 4-4. Once again Manhattanville was not done, this time with M. Lynch stepping to the plate. On a 2-1 pitch, the fresman hit a frozen rope to center field and Booker beat the throw to the plate for the game's winning run, giving the Crimson and Black a huge MAC Freedom win.
M. Lynch recorded two hits on the afternoon along with fellow freshman
Luke Tebolt (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham). Senior
Robbie Lynch (Bronx, N.Y./Fordham Prep) reached base twice on walks and delivered a sacrifice fly for the only other Valiant run of the afternoon. On the mound, junior
Anthony LoFaro (Haworth, N.J./Northern Valley Demarest) had a solid start, allowing four runs over 6.1 innings while also fanning four batters. Junior
John Fanelli (Bronx, N.Y./Fordham Prep) worked out of a huge bases loaded jam in the eighth inning, inducing a ground out to end the Delaware Valley threat and followed it up with a scoreless ninth inning to earn the victory on the mound.
Manhattanville is back in action tomorrow afternoon when they host FDU-Florham in a MAC Freedom doubleheader at Manhattanville Field with game one slated to start at 1:00 pm.
