MADISON, N.J. – Freshman
Peter Iannarilli (West Nyack, N.Y./Clarkstown South) drove in four runs and the Manhattanville College baseball team earned a big MAC Freedom win Friday afternoon, defeating FDU-Florham 14-8 on the road.
Iannarilli reached base safely in all five plate appearances, going 2-for-2 at the plate with three walks, and two runs scored to compliment the four RBIs. Senior
Chris Conklin (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Lakeland) was a perfect 4-for-4 at the dish, scoring four runs and sophomore
Luke Scoggins (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) compiled three hits, two RBIs and two runs scored as well in the win.
Junior
Antonio Ogando (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic) earned the win for the Valiants, going five innings while allowing just three runs and striking out five in the start. Junior
Jorge Castro (Yonkers, N.Y./Globe Institute of Technology) added three innings of relief and fellow junior
William Mohr (Allendale, N.J./Northern Highlands) closed out the game with a single inning out of the bullpen.
The Valiants jumped out to an early lead Friday, scoring twice on an RBI groundout by senior
Robbie Lynch (Bronx, N.Y./Fordham Prep) and a two-out double from senior
John Delahanty (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac). After the Devils got one back in the bottom half of the frame, Iannarilli started his big day with an RBI double to center field to push the lead back up to two runs for the Valiants. Again, the Devils fought back, tying the score at 3-3 in the bottom of the 3rd but the Valiant bats were not done.
Iannarilli recorded a bases-loaded walk to put the Valiants on top for good in the fourth and junior
Danny Gallagher (Nanuet, N.Y./Paramus Catholic) drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to make it 5-3. Iannarilli drove in his final two runs of the afternoon in the eighth inning, bringing home two Valiants with a single, sparking a four-run eighth inning for Manhattanville. The Valiants added five more runs in the ninth to come away with the 14-8 victory.
The Valiants return to action Tuesday when they make the short trip to Purchase College, looking to retain bragging rights in the Battle of Anderson Hill Road with two games against the Panthers beginning at 4:00 pm
