Men's Lacrosse Comes Up Short Against Eastern Wednesday

ST. DAVID'S Pa. – The Manhattanville College men's lacrosse team was unable to get past perennial powerhouse Eastern University Wednesday afternoon in MAC Freedom play, falling to the Eagles 12-3 at Olson Field.

Senior Andrew Murray (Yonkers, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac), sophomore Tristan Green (Easton, Conn./Joel Barlow), and freshman Ryan Leonard (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) ere the goal scorers for the Valiants Wednesday, while senior Colin Morrissey (Shelton, Conn./St. Joseph) and freshman T.J. Caccavo (Carlsbad, Calif./San Marcos) added assists in the loss. Freshman goaltender Jason Frezza (Lake Ronkonkoma/Portledge) made eleven saves between the pipes but it was not enough to stop the Eagles.

As a team, Manhattanville did an excellent job with ball possession in the defensive end and midfield, clearing 15-of-17 attempts in the contest. The Valiants were outshot 40-25 however, and trailed in ground balls 24-36.

After being held scoreless in the opening stanza, the Valiants got on the board with Green's 13th tally of the season and came within one goal 53 seconds later when Leonard found the back of the cage. The Eagles again held the Valiants scoreless though in the final eleven minutes of the half, added three goals of their own to take a 6-2 lead into halftime.

Murray opened the scoring in the second half, putting home his 21st goal of the season but the Valiants were held in check the rest of the way, as Eastern pulled away in the second half for the 12-3 victory.

The Crimson and Black look to get back on the winning track Saturday when they host Wilkes University at 1:00 pm. Prior to faceoff, the Valiants will celebrate the seven senior members of the year's team, and will also play Saturday's game in support of the HEADstrong Foundation.
