Women's Lacrosse Falls to First-Place FDU-Florham, 15-4

MADISON, N.J. – The Manhattanville College women's lacrosse team dropped a 15-4 decision to first-place FDU-Florham in a MAC Freedom matchup on Wednesday night at Robert Shields Field.

The loss drops Manhattanville (10-5, 4-2 MAC Freedom) into a third-place tie in the conference with one game remaining. The Valiants will face off with the other third-place team, King's (Pa.) College, on Saturday in the final game of the regular season for both teams; the winner will be the third seed in next week's MAC Freedom Tournament.

Junior Carly Weiss (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) played a role in three of her team's four tallies on the night, scoring once and adding two assists. Senior Sarah Dalsey (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) and sophomores Evaline Diaz (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley) and Kat Reilly (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) also scored for the visitors.

Noelle Shirey led FDU-Florham (13-3, 6-0 MAC Freedom) with three goals and three assists for six points, while Brienna Reasoner added three goals, an assist and a game-high five ground balls and four draw controls.

The Valiants played the Devils even for the first 15 minutes of the game. Weiss opened the scoring 9:16 into the game with her 46th of the year, and Dalsey responded to a pair of FDU goals with one of her own to knot the score at two with 15:56 to go in the half. But that was the last goal scored by the visitors in the half, as six straight FDU goals gave the home team an 8-2 edge at the break.

The first five goals of the second half also went the way of the Devils, as FDU put the game away.

Manhattanville was out-shot by a 40-17 margin on the night, with senior Lauren Cassidy (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) keeping her team in the game with a season-high 14 saves. FDU's Megan Nemeth made nine saves on 13 shots to earn the win.

The Valiants will honor their six graduating seniors with Senior Day before Saturday's regular-season finale against King's (Pa.). The opening draw is set for 1 p.m. at GoValiants.com Field.
