Men's Lacrosse Falls Short in Second Half, Drops Conference Battle With Misericordia 13-6

DALLAS, Pa. – The Manhattanville College men's lacrosse team was held scoreless in the second half Saturday, dropping a MAC Freedom matchup against Misericordia University 13-6 at Mangelsdorf Field.

Freshman Will Duval (Granite Bay, Calif./Granite Bay) and T.J. Caccavo (Carlsbad, Calif./San Marcos) each scored twice and sophomore Erik Sparby (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) scored and added an assist for two points as well to lead the Valiants offensively.

The Valiants struggled with ball possession, especially in the second half when they committed 15 turnovers to just eight from the Cougars. The Valiants also were unable to take advantage of man-up opportunities, going 0-for-4 on the afternoon.

Manhattanville got off to a strong start Saturday, scoring the game's first two goals on shots from senior Colin Morrissey (Shelton, Conn./St. Joseph) and Caccavo to lead 2-0 at the end of the first quarter. The lead extended to three goals to start the second quarter when Duval found the back of the net for the 15th time this season. After the Cougars got on the scoreboard, Duval and Sparby notched consecutive goals to make it 5-1 in favor of Manhattanville. After the lead was cut to 5-3, Caccavo netted his second goal of the game to make it a three-goal game once again, but that would be the end of the offensive attack for the Valiants, as Misericordia scored the game's final ten goals over the next 33 minutes to down Manhattanville 13-6.

Senior Zach Hoffman (Loudonville, N.Y./LaSalle Institute) was busy once again between the pipes, making 15 saves but it was not enough to keep Manhattanville unbeaten in conference play in 2017. The Valiants will look to bounce back from the loss Thursday when they host DeSales University at GoValiants.com Field beginning at 7:00 pm.
